Happy 2010 from the Ann Arbor Skatepark
Happy New Year from the Ann Arbor Skatepark! We wanted to start the new year with a big thank you, and we have a lot to thank you for:
Thank you for your generous support. We’ve raised more than $16,000 toward creation of the Skatepark. That’s because scads of humans like you from all over Michigan and as far away as California and Montana felt this cause mattered enough to contribute your hard-earned cash (uh… you did earn it, right?).
Thank you for your advice. Many of you have helped with events ranging from massive skate art shows to neighborhood bake sales. (We’re huge pastry fans, so if you keep it up with the bake sales we’ll probably just fund the whole Skatepark out of our own pockets.) And by sharing input during our fall charette folks like you enabled Wally Hollyday, one of the country’s best skatepark designers, to start working on a preliminary concept. If you’re a good skatefriend and sign up for our e-mail updates you’ll be among the first to see his design in early 2010.
Thank you for your involvement. You’ve come out for skate jams and holiday parties as well as PAC and city council meetings (we were pretty surprised about that last part. But totally in a good way). Your participation has shown public officials and potential donors that our whole community is behind the cause.
Clearly you’ve done a lot for the Skatepark this year—possibly without even realizing it. If you’ve shopped at Vault of Midnight, Launch Boardshop, Acme Mercantile or Sun & Snow, drunk Roos Roast Coffee, eaten at Zingerman’s, bought lumber at Fingerle’s, had your printing done at VG Kids or supported the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (our fiscal sponsor) you’ve given a boost to local businesses and organizations who also support the Skatepark.
We’re one great big happy family of skate-o-philes here in Ann Arbor, that’s for sure.
We’ll be in touch regularly over the coming months with some great news. In the meantime, have a great start to 2010. And thank you for supporting the Ann Arbor Skatepark!
